VOLUNTEERS

As a non-profit, charity-run event, we rely on the fantastic people who volunteer their time and skills to bring the festival to life each year!

Get Involved

There are so many ways you can get involved as a volunteer, from marshalling at the festival, helping with set up and take down, or joining a steering group to help us shape the festival.

Find out more about the different roles below, or if you have another idea for how you’d like to be involved, why not get in touch?

Our build crew are a friendly bunch who love the satisfaction of seeing the festival come together on the day. Plus you get a bacon sandwich, a free lunch and plenty of coffee!

The festival build happens between 8 am and 12 pm, and take down starts at 6 pm when the festival finishes. Jobs include putting up decorations, greeting and guiding contractors, or helping to set up equipment such as gazebos and hay bales. Whether you can help out for 1 hour, or want to stick around for the whole day, we appreciate everyone’s support and input. You don’t need any events experience, you just need a willingness to help and a friendly smile!

Volunteer marshals are the eyes and ears on the ground for the event management team. Shifts are 2-hours long, but you can help out for longer if you’d like to. You don’t need any experience in event marshalling as all training and equipment will be provided for you. All you need is a friendly smile.

The main role of event marshals is to keep the public safe and provide information for festival attendees. If you’d like to know more about this role, please get in touch to chat with the event management team about what’s involved.

We want the Minehead Bay Festival to be community-led. We’d love to speak to you about your ideas for the festival. If you’d like to contribute, you can email us with your suggestions, or join one of our steering groups.

Steering group meetings will be held twice a year, with a maximum length of 1.5 hours per meeting. We’ll provide plenty of free tea and coffee, and maybe even a bit of cake! Steering group meetings can be held online or in person, depending on what you prefer.

Are you handy with a sewing machine, or do you just love to be creative? Whatever your skill set, why not join one of our free creative workshops to help us make decorations for the festival? Or maybe you’re already part of a creative group that would like to be involved? Watch out for creative workshops throughout the year, or get in touch if you’ve got ideas!

Because after all, a festival isn’t a festival without plenty of bunting and funky flags!

Perhaps you’re a dab hand at writing funding bids, or simply want to help us with fundraising activities, we have volunteer roles for every skill set, no matter how much time you have available.

And you can rest assured that any money you help to raise will go towards MCDT’s charitable activities that boost the community in Minehead.

Every year, we distribute hundreds of posters and flyers around Somerset. If you can help with distributing posters and flyers or putting up banners, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re a local business and would be happy to have a poster in your shop window, please get in touch.
