Lets Get Crafting for Minehead Bay Festival 2026!

We’re excited to be joining forces with the wonderful Minehead Women’s Institute to give the trees on Circus Green colourful festival outfits.

Imagine multi-coloured, yarn-bombed dream coats wrapping the trees in a riot of colour and creativity. This handcrafted installation, created by our community, will make the Circus Green look truly joyful.

Whether you’re part of a knitting or crochet group, or a dedicated home crafter, we’d love you to get involved. Read on for further details and email maya@mineheadandcoast.org.uk to join in.

There are plenty of ways to contribute, whatever your crafting abilities are:

Collect your wool. You can collect wool from Minehead Library or use your own. Once you have completed your contribution, simply drop it off at Minehead Library before the 10th of August.

Knit or crochet a square or strip. Each piece should be between 6 and 20 inches wide and between 6 and 41 inches long – squares or strips, any length works as we will patchwork these together.

Make pom poms Not a knitter or crocheter? No problem. We’ll be creating fabulous pom pom garlands for the trees, and every pom pom counts. Here’s a super easy pom pom tutorial, perfect for trying with kids:

Make a crochet wind spinner New to crochet or looking for a satisfying, smaller project? A crochet wind spinner is a perfect place to start – and they’ll look stunning spinning in the sea breeze on the day. Take a look at these two tutorials for inspiration and guidance:

Knit or crochet hearts for the tree. Fancy adding some love to the trees? You can knit or crochet a heart to add to the garlands. Email maya@mineheadandcoast.org.uk for a pattern.

Get involved as a group If you’d like to take part as a knitting or crochet group, we’d love to come along, say hello, and help get you started.

We really love our trees in Minehead – and with your help, they’ll be dressed to impress for Minehead Bay Festival on 29th August 2026.

If you would like to be part of the group that will be sewing the squares together, you can email Maya to get involved. Get in touch today at maya@mineheadandcoast.org.uk – we can’t wait to create something wonderful together!

A big thank you to Minehead Women’s Institute and Minehead Library for their support.
